Make your footage buttery smooth and photos beautiful.

On the surface, a neutral density (ND) filter dims the light entering a lens but in actuality, does so much more. These filters are the secret behind motion blur photography during the day, smooth footage, and crisp aerial photos.

Sunny days are the most beautiful but can some of the most challenging to photograph or film. An ND filter will solve your problems. For photography, the filter will allow you have to have your aperture open so your photo can have some beautiful depth of field. It will also allow you to have a lower shutter speed for some motion blur. Living in beautiful, sunny Santa Barbara, California, I use these filter all the time for portraits at the beach or capturing the movement of waterfalls on the trails in the mountains.

Videography will also benefit from an ND filter more than you know. While shooting a promo for the Santa Barbara Yacht Club’s Wet Wednesday this filter was a life saver. Unnatural looking video comes from high frame rates paired with high shutter speeds. With an ND filter, you can avoid the high shutter speeds to get some nice motion blur and it will also keep your camera from cycling through high and low ISO settings and keep your footage buttery smooth.
